Toyota Innova Review Contents5th-Jan-2012: Toyota Motors finally gave a nice make over to its cash cow, Toyota Innova and launched it at the Auto Expo 2012 in New Delhi. Toyota Innova Overall
Toyota Innova is the most popular MUV (Multi Utility Vehicle) in the Indian market which belongs to a breed of cars that is hardly seen in the auto market. Its official name in Indonesia is Toyota Kijang Innova, while for other countries it is simply Innova as this MPV replaced Toyota Kijang globally. In India, the MPV replaced Toyota Qualis. Hailing from the world’s top-most car manufacturer-Toyota Motors which operated in India with Kirloskar as Toyota Kirloskar Motors, Innova is a perfect Multi-Purpose Vehicle plying on Indian roads. Evidently, Toyota Innova was first launched in 2005 in India and comes as both 8-seater as well as 7-seater MPV.
Toyota Innova wishes to combine features like space and ruggedness associated with MUVs along with comfort and handling that is normally seen in high segment cars. Toyota Innova is an ambitious project, considering the fact that Toyota Innova replaced Qualis, which itself was a huge hit in utility vehicles in India. Toyota Innova showed Indian manufacturers great quality work in a segment where most of the cars sold, are used as taxis. Though, Innova is also used a lot a Taxi segment these days, it can be an owners pride for its design, comfort, safety and innovative features too. A facelifted version of this MPV was displayed at the 2012 Auto Expo.
Most of the changes are done on the outside of Innova. While headlamps are more angular now, bumpers are also restylised. The fog lamps now become oval in 8-seater and rhombus shaped in 7-seater and beautifully enclosed while the grille becomes upright with three chrome slats and Toyota badging at the centre of the topmost slat. Above the grille is a chrome thick band. The bonnet has a more prominent V now. While the side profile gets new skirting, alloy wheels and tail lights receives new profile plus a chrome band nicely placed on the back to add premium-ness to the MPV. Many new changes are also made in interiors which look more deluxe now.
The contemporary design of Toyota Innova emphasizes the fact that it is designed to cater to the world market. Innova offers excellent handling and drive quality with its elegant interiors, additional advanced features and generous cabin space. Toyota Innova has an excellent shape. Its wheel arches are flared and it is high enough to do away with any number speed bumps that it might encounter. Toyota Innova is well equipped with double wishbones with coil springs up the front suspension. On the other hand the rear suspension uses a non-independent suspension, with four links and a lateral rod with coil springs.
Toyota brings out Innova in petrol and diesel guise. The company now produces only BS1V compatible petrol Innova. However, production of BSIV and BSIII versions of Innova diesel is still on. The tinted windows are wide enough with a quarter windows for rear seats that cannot be opened. Toyota has tweaked Innova and the new version is higher thus giving good ground clearance to it for bump-free ride. Rest the facelift looks similar to the old version except these few changes.

Tomorrow will be a big day for Toyota Motors as it is going to launch its much awaited facelifts of Toyota Innova MPV and Toyota Fortuner SUV. Toyota Innova has been dominating the Indian MPV car segment since a long time now and was longing for a makeover from couple of months now. On the other hand, Toyota Fortuner also maintained its status to be the most sought after SUV in India. Both these cars have been gone under the knife and will be launched at the Auto Expo 2012, which would be organized at Pragati Maidan, New Delhi from 7th to 11th January 2012.

Toyota India has not just one but three trump cards to play this time. It is true to say trump cards as all the three cars, Toyota Innova, Toyota Fortuner and Toyota Camry have always been the best-selling cars for the auto major. Except for the new Toyota Camry, the Toyota Innova and Fortuner facelifts are more of an external makeover and to fill in the gaps along the missing points.
