The German car maker Audi after recently launching the low priced sedan Audi A4 in the Indian market has now launched the sporty model of this sedan named Audi S4. Audi India this time tried something new to see, whether the car would be able to attract the Indian buyers, Audi started the “Vote for S4 and bring it to India” campaign, which was an online campaign on social media site, Twitter. The feedback of this campaign was overwhelming, forcing Audi to bring the sporty sedan S4 in the Indian market. 

When it comes to performance, this car is equipped with a 3.0 liter 6 cylinder TFSI engine which is capable of generating a maximum torque of 440Nm and a maximum power of 337.6 PS. It also has a 7 speed S tronic gearbox which can accelerate the car to a speed of 100 kmph in a time interval of just 5 seconds. The fuel economy of the car 10.34 km/l as declared by the ARAI.Talking about the looks, the body height of the car is lowered by 20mm with the help of suspension package for the sporty look; this look is further enhanced by the 18-inch wheels with low profile rubber.

As the car got the much needed response, so the company has launched its sporty sedan very softly in the market, With S4 coming in the Indian market there are also chances that Audi might plan to bring its other S series models to India.

The company earlier claimed the mileage to be 12.34 kmpl but now the as per claimed by ARAI the car provides a mileage of 12.34 kmpl. The car has direct fuel injection system which reduces the heat and pressure in the combustion chamber avoiding any wastage of fuel. Not only the fuel injection system but also the Quattro engine helps a lot as it allows only a limited amount of fuel and air to enter in to the combustion chamber. Audi S4 features a powerful 3.0 Litre V6 supercharged engine capable of taking the car from 0-100 kmph in just 5 seconds with a top speed of 250 kmph. The engine yields a power of 333bhp at 5500-6500 rpm and a torque figure of 440Nm at 2900-5300 rpm. The 7 speed S-tronic engine delivers uninterrupted power to provide more acceleration. The Quattro engine with Sports differential component distributes variable amounts of drive force to each rear wheel, ensuring excellent acceleration performance in corners and stabilising the vehicles response to load change. This new V6 TFSI engine is capable of accelerating the car to a speed of 100 km/h in just 5 seconds and is governed with a top speed of 250 km/h. Audi S4 Exteriors

Audi has made a firm grip over the luxury car segment in the Indian market. The company has recently launched its sedan Audi A4 and now just came up with the sporty sedan Audi S4, by launching it softly in the market. The car has the typical sporty look as expected from the company. This is a fast and a powerful sports car for the everyday practicality. The hexagonal single framed grilled and the newly designed bumpers are the most obvious changes, also the wedge shaped xenon headlights clasped in LED daytime running. The other features include its radiator grille insert, which is platinum grey and it features finely sculpted, horizontal crossbars and an S4 badge. The exterior mirrors have the aluminum look finish while the side sills are same as the body colour.

When it comes to the dimensions the length, width and the height of the car are 4714mm X 2040mm X 1406mm respectively. The wheelbase is 2811mm, which is 20mm less than the Audi A4 to give this car a more sportier look.

The interiors of the Audi S4 has many sporty options along with the convenience and comfort options. It has a leather multifunction sport steering wheel and the flat bottoms rim available in the sporty option. The interior of the car has Matt brushed aluminum and the black look. The car comes with adjustable steering wheel and panel illumination, day counter and the board computer as the special interior features.

Heated seats, automatically dimming interior front, audio controls on steering wheel and the navigation system are some optional features available in the car. The Sports model S4 is powered by V6 3.0 litre TFSI engine. The TFSI engine allows only a precise amount of air and fuel to inject into the combustion chamber, which results in reduced heat loss and increased output, with around 15% reduction in fuel combustion significantly lower exhaust emission. The car also has the Automatic Start Stop function for greater fuel and CO2 efficiency. This petrol engine can generate a maximum power of 333bhp at 5500-6500 rpm and a maximum torque of 440Nm at 2900-5300 rpm. The engine can take the car from 0 to 100 kmph in just 5 seconds and has top speed of 250 kmph. The car has 4 valves per cylinder with DOHC valve configuration. The Bore x Stroke of the car is 84,5 x 89,0 mm with a compression ratio of 10.3:1. The engine also has the supercharger which is basically an air compressor used for forced induction of an internal combustion engine, it has greater mass flow rate which provides more oxygen to support combustion which allows more fuel to be burned and more work to be done per cycle, increasing the power output of the engine.

Wheels

The car has in it 18” x 8.5J ‘5-double-spoke S’ design alloy wheels with 245/40 R18 tyres size. The car also has a space-saver spare wheel. These 18 inch wheels provide a wonderful gripping on the road ensuring safer drive.

Braking & Handling

The car is equipped with an ‘S’ model enhanced braking system with the ventilated disc brakes in the front and the normal disc brakes in the rear. It also comes with the ABS, EBD and brake assistant to improve the brake mechanism of the car. The ABS allows the wheel to interact tractively with the road, preventing the wheels from locking up and avoid skidding. The EBD technology helps in varying the amount of force applied to each of the vehicle’s brake, to maximize the stopping power while maintaining vehicular control. So ABS coupled with EBD provides a better handling of the car. The 7 speed S-stronic dual clutch transmission also adds to the beauty as it works as almost two separate systems, one engaging the odd numbers of gears and the other one engaging the even numbers of gears. So like when we will start accelerating in the second gear then the car will be already prepared for the third one, and once we make the switch the car will be already prepared for the fourth one. So with two clutches working in combination we can change gears almost instantly experiencing smooth, uninterrupted power. Audi S4 has in it the S sport suspension lowered by 20mm, the front and the rear of the car has Multilink screw springs to avoid any noises, bumps and vibrations on the road and provide a comfortable ride. The car also has adaptive cruise control with breaking guard, it is basically an automatic speed and distance control system, it uses the radar sensors to measure and maintain the required distance to vehicle ahead by braking and accelerating. The breaking guard triggers a visual and acoustic alarm when it detects the risk of rear end collision with the vehicle in the front.

Handling & Safety

This sports sedan incorporates in it some standard and advanced features. For the handling the car has in it the 7 speed S-tronic dual clutch transmission system which readily falls in to hands. The dual clutch transmission allows a transfer of uninterrupted power providing you with a smooth driving. The basic safety features include the central locking, power door locks, child safety lock, anti-theft alarm, front and rear seat belts with seat belt warning and Xenon headlamps. The airbag system includes the driver, front passenger, front side and head airbag with passenger airbag deactivation switch. The brake recommendation system which analyses the driver behaviour based on steering wheel, pedals and gear level movements. It also has the ESP system with the limited slip off differential, ISOFIX child seat mounting, light and rain sensor, rear parking sensor which facilitate parking by acoustically indicating the distance to obstacles, Thatcham category 1 alarm and immobiliser. The additional features include the vehicle stability control system, crash sensor and engine check warning.
